What?! Bold & Beautiful’s Liam *Was* Supposed to Die — and That Could End Up Being His Saving Grace!

Right now, The Bold and the Beautiful’s Liam is currently in the middle of celebrating his newest engagement with Hope, but if things had gone according to the original plan, he would already be dead and gone!
The inoperable brain tumor was supposed to be very real and utterly final. There wouldn’t have been any last minute miracles or sleight of hands that allowed him to live.

That’s what Scott Clifton told Soap Opera Digest. Headwriter Brad Bell had felt Liam’s story had run its course, he’d been written into a corner and the only thing left was a dramatic death!
“It was a very real conversation that I had with Brad,” he shared. “I really was supposed to kick the old soap opera bucket.”
In fact, Clifton even understood the decision and didn’t bear any ill will — even if there was some disappointment.
In fact, it was even kind of refreshing because Liam, “had made all these poor choices for all these years.” As he thought he was dying, he went on a tour of loved ones to make amends and the brain tumor story “was a kind of way of redeeming the character before sending him off.
I really, really appreciated that and I really loved that as a conclusion to the character.”
But that wasn’t Liam’s conclusion because at the 11th hour, Bell decided Liam would not only be sticking around, he’d get his own heroic moment!
Then came Luna’s shooting, Liam’s hospitalization, his miracle cure and the revelation that Grace had faked it all to bilk money out of Bill.

Liam’s redemption got to stick and he got a new lease on life after becoming sort of a martyr. This, maybe, would be a way to create a whole new Liam who didn’t just keep bouncing between Hope and Steffy, never learning or changing or making a decent choice.
That’s all behind him now. So much so that Liam’s engaged to Hope once again! OK, that may not seem new, but the two do have a family together and Liam’s near death showed him how important that was to him.
If Liam has learned anything, maybe he’ll stop with this whole “grass is greener” thing and settle down with Hope for good. But then, that would mean she’d have to do the same, and with Thomas heading back home, that could be asking a lot!
But if they do end things again, maybe this redeemed Liam will simply wish Hope well, and go looking for a love with a whole lot less baggage. Because if he ends up going back to his old ways, he’s eventually going to need a whole new near-death experience to make amends once more!
