General Hospital fans were thrilled when news broke that Jonathan Jackson would be returning as Lucky Spencer. Recently, Jackson opened up about his comeback and the one person who always supported him.
In a podcast with his castmates Steve Burton (Jason) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli), Jackson discussed his last appearance on the ABC soap in 2015 and how his return came about. He shared that he had maintained contact with executive producer Frank Valentini since his last stint and said, “It just kind of happened organically; it just felt like the right time. It all came together.” Jackson also revealed that there had been other times over the years when a return for Lucky almost happened, but the timing hadn’t been right for various reasons.
Steve Burton, a good friend of Jackson, isn’t the only one excited about his return. Genie Francis, who plays Laura, has been a huge cheerleader for her on-screen son. Burton can’t wait to see Jackson and Francis share the screen again. Jackson credited Francis’s presence on the show as a big reason he was able to come back. “I don’t want to sound corny or sentimental,” he said, “but it’s a very special thing about this medium that you can work with someone when you’re 11 to 17 years old and then work with them again when you’re 28.”
During his last return, Jackson didn’t get to work much with his on-screen mom, Laura. This time, he is eager to share scenes with her, making his comeback even more special. Fans can look forward to emotional and heartwarming moments between Lucky and Laura, adding a significant layer to the ongoing storylines.
