During Sunday night’s 31st annual SAG Awards streaming on Netflix, performers who passed away since last year’s ceremony were highlighted and given their respects, during the In Memoriam segment of the show. The Screen Actors Guild members include those working in motion pictures, television, commercials and other unionized projects.

The In Memoriam segment was introduced by former Friends star, Lisa Kudrow, who lost her on-screen mom, the great Teri Garr, when she passed away back in October of 2024 from complications of multiple sclerosis at the age of 79. The tribute was accompanied by the track “Journey” by H.E.R.

During Sunday night’s 31st annual SAG Awards streaming on Netflix, performers who passed away since last year’s ceremony were highlighted and given their respects, during the In Memoriam segment of the show. The In Memoriam segment was introduced by former Friends star, Lisa Kudrow, who lost her on-screen mom, the great Teri Garr, when she passed away back in October of 2024 from complications of multiple sclerosis at the age of 79. The tribute was accompanied by the track “Journey” by H.E.R.

Soap opera fans noticed that several beloved stars were part of the segment. They included: General Hospital’s longest-tenured cast member, Leslie Charleson who passed away on January 12th at the age of 79. Charleson was given two clips; one in her earlier days on GH and another in more recent times. In recent weeks, it has been revealed that Leslie’s cause of death was determined to be from “sequelae of blunt head trauma.” Charleson had played Monica Quartermaine on the ABC daytime drama series for over 47 years.

Days of our Lives long-running hero and leading man, Drake Hogestyn, who played John Black, was also featured. Sadly, Drake lost his battle with pancreatic cancer back on September 28, 2024. Drake appeared on the soap opera from 1986 to 2024. He famously came on to DAYS as the recast Roman Brady with a new face when the OG Roman, Wayne Northrop, had left he show. In the story twist, Hogestyn’s character eventually turned out to be revealed as John Black, when the original Roman returned.
Wayne Northrop was also honored in the In Memoriam segment. The beloved star passed away on November 29, 2024 from complications due to his battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Northrop was married for over 43 years to his wife, General Hospital’s Lynn Herring (Lucy Coe). Recently, it was announced that Wayne and Lynn’s son, Hank Northrop would be appearing in a hush-hush role on Days of our Lives later this year.
At the time of his passing, Northrop was 77-years old. Wayne appeared on DAYS 1981 to 1984 and again from 1991 to 1994. He later returned to the soap in the role of Alex North from 2005-2006.General Hospital’s Johnny Wactor was also remembered. Wactor, who played Brando Corbin (2020-2022), was shot and killed in the the early-morning hours of May 25, 2024 in downtown Los Angeles.

Johnny was walking to his car with a co-worker after his bartending shift, when he got into a confrontation with three masked men attempting to steal his vehicle’s catalytic converter. For months, a manhunt was on to bring his killers to justice, and eventually, four young men were arrested for the crime.Also remembered in the In Memoriam segment were: John Aprea (ex- Alexander Nikos and Lucas Castigliano Another World), Nicholas Pryor (ex-Victor Collins, Port Charles and General Hospital), James B. Sikking (ex-Jim Hobart, General Hospital) and Michael Cole (ex-Harlan Barrett, General Hospital).
