George Passed Away Aged 76

Fox News reported that George Wendt passed away “peacefully in his sleep” on Tuesday. The notification arrived via his family. They said, “George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him.” It seems that Chris McKenna knew him well and they were firm friends.

Chris posted his tribute on Instagram within hours of the news arriving. Several photos arrived of them together. In his caption, the real-life Jack Brennan wrote:

I’ve spent so much time with George on screen, on stage, in Stuart Gordon’s long rehearsals, in Scottish pubs drinking cask ales, in late night venues watching live music which he loved. And it’ll never have been enough. His dry humor and his hearty chuckle will be with me forever as it will the rest of us. I miss you already, George. Take a rest, you’ve earned it.

Returning to the comments section, the ABC star added more about George Wendt. He seems unready to say much more right now, and he’s still dealing with the shock of losing a friend. “This isn’t remotely the tribute he deserves,” he added. Chris continued by writing, “I knew him for 25 years and he optioned the book that gave me my first lead in a film. I’ll say more once I’ve gathered myself.”

ABC Fans React

Fans of Cheers and GH used the opportunity to talk about George, and many of them offered their condolences to Chris McKenna. One of them wrote, “This is such sad news. He was such a talented actor. I watched every episode of Cheers and will always remember Norm. Rest in peace Norm.”

Here are a few more contributions to the discussion:
