Days of Our Lives Star Al Calderon Confirms Exit — Says It’s “Not Goodbye, Just See You Later”
The sands of time are shifting once again in Salem. Al Calderon, who joined Days of Our Lives last year as Javi Hernandez, has officially announced his departure from the long-running NBC soap. Javi, introduced as the cousin of fan-favorite characters Rafe and Gabi Hernandez, quickly made an impression with his charisma and strong family ties. But as Calderon revealed on August 6th via Instagram Stories, his run on the daytime drama is coming to an end.
“My time on Days of Our Lives has been truly life-changing,” the 31-year-old actor wrote. “I’m endlessly grateful to the cast, crew, and creatives who made me feel seen, valued, and part of a legacy of family.”
Calderon reflected on the experience with heartfelt gratitude, calling it a chapter that will stay with him forever.
“I’ll carry the love, lessons, and memories with me on every journey I go on. While I’m just a small grain of sand, I’m just happy I got to pass through the hourglass.”
Despite his exit, Calderon made it clear he hasn’t closed the book entirely on Salem. In a warm nod to his mother’s wisdom, he added:
“As my mom used to tell me, it’s not goodbye, just see you later.”
According to Deadline, Calderon’s final episode is set to air in May of next year, giving fans plenty of time to enjoy Javi’s storyline before he leaves the canvas.
Why the Sudden Exit?
The actor isn’t stepping away from daytime television without good reason — he’s moving on to another high-profile role. Last month, Calderon confirmed he’s joining the second season of NBC’s Brilliant Minds, the Zachary Quinto–led medical drama.
Javi Hernandez’s Salem Legacy
Though his time on Days has been relatively short, Javi brought new energy to the Hernandez family, bridging existing relationships and adding fresh conflict and warmth to storylines. Whether involved in family drama or romantic entanglements, Calderon’s portrayal helped cement Javi as a character with both charm and depth.
With Calderon hinting that the door is open for a possible return, Days of Our Lives fans may yet see Javi back in Salem — hourglass in hand — somewhere down the road.
