It’s a new day over at General Hospital now that we’ve finally got confirmation about who’s penning the show after the last year’s upheavals. Because if there’s one thing that’s become clear over the past week, it’s that they’re trying to fix things and wrap up storylines. There are smaller pivots, like Willow’s return to nursing, right along with larger changes like pushing Sonny to the brink and wasting no time in uncovering the fake pills that have been making him increasingly unstable.
Next up, we have a feeling, is bringing Valentin back and figuring out a way to save him. The previous writing team painted him into such a villainous corner, that the only way out seemed to be death, prison or going on the run. The show chose the last option, sending Valentin and Charlotte on the run and assuring us that they’d be back.
And now that the truth is out about Sonny’s meds, it feels like the right time to bring Valentin back. After all, he’s the one who initially reduced the dosage in order to throw Sonny off his game. Ava may have taken it a step farther in completely replacing Sonny’s medication with a placebo, but it all started with Valentin. And figuring that out, seems like the logical first step in bringing him back.
It would make sense that, as Anna digs into what happened with Ava and Sonny, she hauls in the pharmacist who messed with the meds, only for him to blab not just about Ava, but Valentin too.
That could push her to track her ex down and get to the bottom of things. Of course, bringing Valentin back is just one part of the problem, as the show would also have to figure out a way to redeem him. Luckily, before leaving, he seemed to have started down a path of redemption already, confessing everything to Anna about Pikeman and telling her she was the reason he tried to be good. Brennan got out of all this scot free, so why can’t Valentin also have his slate wiped clean?
Granted, that would become a whole lot more difficult if Sonny learns Valentin had anything to do with his meds. That would put a target on his back that could be even tougher to shake than the cops.
Plus, with Brennan settled into Port Charles (if you missed yesterday’s episode when it happened, you can read the recap here), we can’t imagine he’d be at all happy if his Pikeman scapegoat was hauled back to town! What are your thoughts? Is it already time for Valentin to come home?
