Port Charles Purgatory: Who Will Cheat Death Next on General Hospital?
For over six decades, General Hospital has perfected the art of the soap opera resurrection. In the world of Port Charles, death is often more of a temporary setback than a permanent conclusion, a narrative device that keeps viewers captivated.
The show’s long history is filled with beloved characters returning from the grave in shocking and emotional moments.
The recent, unexpected return of Dr. Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud), long presumed dead, has once again ignited fan speculation: if Britt can come back, who else might be waiting in the wings for a miraculous comeback? Here are three key characters whose return could send shockwaves through the current storylines.
First on the list is the formidable gangster Julian Jerome (William deVry). His turbulent story seemingly ended in a dramatic showdown on a bridge, where he was shot by his rival Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) just before it collapsed.
While it was a fitting end, no body was ever recovered. With Sonny currently embroiled in a high-stakes war against the powerful Selina Wu (Lydia Look), Julian’s return would be a game-changer. An alliance between Julian and Selina could create an unprecedented threat, forcing Sonny into a corner.
The true emotional fallout, however, would land on Julian’s sister, Ava Jerome (Maura West). The discovery that her brother was alive after she had mourned him would provide a gut-wrenching, Emmy-worthy storyline for West to explore.
Next is a return fans have debated for years: Morgan Corinthos (Bryan Craig), the troubled son of Sonny and Carly Spencer (Laura Wright). Morgan was tragically killed in 2016 by a car bomb intended for Julian, but like his uncle, his body was never found. His return would be a seismic event for the Corinthos family.
For Carly, who has carried the grief of his loss for years, the reunion would be a moment of unparalleled emotional catharsis, allowing Laura Wright to deliver a tour-de-force performance. It would also force Sonny to confront his failings as a father.
Their historically complicated relationship, full of tension and misunderstanding, would provide rich, poignant material as the two men attempt to heal old wounds.
Finally, the ultimate resurrection would be that of the legendary Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary). Luke was reportedly killed in a cable car accident in 2022, but the lack of a body has kept hope alive for fans. While Geary is retired from acting, a short-term return isn’t outside the realm of possibility for soaps.
Luke could reappear to help his old friend Sonny in his fight against Port Charles’ criminal element. More importantly, it would set the stage for a monumental reunion with the great love of his life, Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot). The chemistry between these two icons is legendary, and their emotional reunion would be a historic moment for the show, providing closure for a generation of fans.
