With nearly a century of life experience, beloved entertainment icon Dick Van Dyke has shared how heâs at peace with the idea of death, saying heâs not afraidâeven though he knows it could come at any time.
Van Dyke made the comments during a seven-minute short film which has been made as a directorâs cut of a new Coldplay music video. The video for All My Love, the latest single from the bandâs album Moon Music, stars the 98-year-old Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Mary Poppins actor.
In the extended version of the video, Van Dyke opens up about his age, family and love.
âIâm acutely aware that I could go any day now, but I donât know why, it doesnât concern me, Iâm not afraid of it,â he said.
In addition to his reflections on life and death, Van Dyke recently shared how he hopes to be remembered.
Van Dyke reflected on his legacy after receiving the award for Outstanding Variety Special at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmy Awards for his 2023 birthday special, Dick Van Dyke: 98 Years of Magic.
Van Dyke told reporters he hopes to be remembered as someone who brought laughter to peopleâs lives while adding that he has no plans to retire and remains eager to continue working.
âFor laughter, I hope, for making people laugh for 75 years,â he shared.
âIâve been in the business 75 years. I canât believe that Iâm still here and performing. Iâm looking for work if anybody has (any).â
Van Dyke also reflected on the early days of his career while revealing what it takes to be successful in the entertainment industry.
âYou have to stick with it. Youâre gonna go through hard times and a lot of auditions⊠but you have to stay with it,â he said.
âBe patient if youâve got the confidence in yourself, and itâs very important to believe that you can do it.â
